What is Forest Bathing....?

For booking please scroll down.

Forest bathing is a still a relatively new concept in the UK, it originated in Japan in the 80's and since then it has become recognised as a clinical therapy and is available as an alternative treatment to medications for some conditions. Known as ‘shinrin-yoku’, which roughly translates to ‘making contact with and taking in the atmosphere of the forest’ it has evolved following scientific studies conducted by the Japanese government. The results showed that two hours of mindful exploration in a forest could reduce blood pressure, lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels and improve concentration and memory. They also found that trees releases chemicals called phytoncides, which have an anti-microbial effect on human bodies, boosting the immune system. The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you, tuning into your senses whilst breathing deeply can really help you to de-stress and boost your health and wellbeing in a natural way. So spending time in nature is not only a very enjoyable way to pass the time, but it is also scientifically proven to be good for both your mental and physical health!
Time in nature and mindfulness techniques are being more and more recognised for their postive affect on both mental and physical health and are slowly starting to be recomended by the NHS and NICE guidelines as go to treatments and alternatives to medication.

So what actually is it and what does it involve? Forest bathing is simply spending mindful time in nature, with a guide who will invite you to try various activities that focus on your senses and your suroundings. There is some gentle walking but this is not about exercise or vigerous hiking! Walking is at a very slow pace, with frequent stops. Invitations are just that; offers or suggestions, nothing is compulsory, this is protected time just for you!  It is a very gentle and comforting experience! Even if you're someone that spends frequent time in nature, such as taking the dog for a walk, Forest Bathing can still be an enlightening experience and help you see and appreciate nature from a completely different perspective. Give yourself a little treat and book a session today!

Once you have booked, you will be provided with more information about meeting places and what to wear and bring (this is usually weather dependant!). Plus the guide will be intouch to keep you updated with weather updates. Forest Bathing is an all weather activity and will usually only be cancelled if storms or winds over 30mph are forecast.
